‘I Get Drunk’
Written by Author : JAMIEL JONES
I get drunk because there’s nobody in love with me
I get drunk on the weekdays, weekends, anytime, any day I feel alone.
To feel lonely, to feel like your existence is that of something to be seen under a microscope
Insignificant in fact, nobody will take the time to see my soul
I get drunk to forget
Forgetfulness is the key to sanity.
Without a bottle I think I would have drowned in my own existence
Have you ever gotten tired of your own presence, your own company?
See I get drunk!
I get drunk, I sink deep into a bottle of Jack
Jack, my friend, he sees me trying to get drunk repeatedly, and I swear sometimes I see him weep
Jack, my empty friend, I get drunk, I get drunk, I get drunk…
And nothing changes, everything in my life remains the same and somehow, I trudge on
An empty bottle is an empty soul, a loose heart hanging from tattered strings
Every time I hear my heart thud I’m surprised I’m still alive.
My liver hates me.
It can despise me because there’s nobody in love with me, so I get drunk, I get drunk, I get drunk…
The epitome of loneliness is a half full bottle and music blasting that I can’t even get up to
dance to,
Or maybe it’s a half empty bottle waiting for somebody else’s lips to wrap around its head
My breath is poison and I drip I get drunk too much.
I get drunk and forget for a little bit, but like I said—Forgetfulness is the key to sanity.
So maybe that’s why I’m crazy
But in the end, even in the liquor store as I peruse for my next victim, my next murder of oneself,
One’s mind, and one’s body
I can’t remember the last time I was truly in love, and I don’t care because I’m drunk
And I figure, I need to get drunker, so I can forget for some time what the definition of the wordlove is
Let me tell you, the clerk lady up front is judging me, she sees a drunk guy trying to kill himself
Her eyes are piercing, ripping into me and she sees—she sees perfectly my state of insanity
See, the world is a cruel place, and my fact is proven now
People don’t care. Why should they?
The clerk lady says, “Have a nice day!” and sells me my only true friend
I get drunk, I get drunk I…Get…Drunk…
